I have had an interesting personal history on this subject. About 10 years ago I was visiting Ireland. I was with Sprint at the time and its International Service didn't work. They ended up refunding what I paid for it. I got an Irish SIM for my phone. It worked great. The carrier handled most of their customer service stuff through their smart phone app. It actually worked extremely well. At the time Sprint's customer service was, well, left a lot to be desired. I strongly urged them to look at what this Irish cellular carrier was doing. It would have solved many of their problems.

Fast forward to 2024 and a trip to Italy. I am now a former Sprint customer on T-Mobile. My upgraded International plan that worked great in 2023 was rubbish in 2024. My best access to T-Mobile support was through the T-Life app. Since I had no cellular access, the app simply didn't work. Using my hotel's wifi I was able to get the app to at least start up. It was incredibly slow and clearly not designed for the latency of an overseas weak wifi connection. Using WhatsApp I messaged friends at home. They got me a customer service number with real humans at T-Mobile. I called them over my wifi connection. Two hours later I still didn't have a working cellular service. Off to the local phone kiosk I went to get some SIMs!

I have had both good and bad experiences with cellular support apps like T-Lite. The difference comes down to design, testing, and ongoing quality improvement. The Irish app was a model for simplicity and efficiency. No animations. No pop-up's. The menu's were well thought out, intuitive, and FAST. As you were using the app all of the menu's, content, and logic was running locally on my phone. Only when I submitted a request for a change to my service was there a data communication to the carriers servers. Conversely as I was struggling with the T-Life app the whole UI was being driven from T-Mobile servers across a very slow data link. Changes to my account were made by mistake and there was no way in the app to reverse or correct them.

If T-Mobile would seriously redesign and improve the T-Life app it could be a very good thing for both the company and its customers. If the app continues to be a painful experience especially when T-Mobile's customers need serious support, then an exodus can be expected.

After 20 years, I've reached my limit. The force migration did it for me.

I left 12 days ago, after 19 years. The main reason was the unannounced forced migration, but the t life and a list of other shenanigans played a role as well. I hope that millions leave otherwise Verizon and att will copy this.

You get what you pay for .. my mom switched over to AT&T along with her 6 lines a few months ago and she's considering switching back. . she gets poor cell reception in the elevators, loses signal at Sam's Club/Costco sometimes, and the internet is slow unless you pay more... She mainly gets frustrated with YouTube videos needing to buffer. We've complained to AT&T.. they've opened "tickets" lol... I'm sure they hear about this all the time.

I love T-Mobile. I don't mind paying more. I have the experience beyond plan. I wish I could chat with T-Mobile on my PC without having to use a screen mirroring app.

I switched 12 days ago to ATT and have no issues and a much lower price. Depending on location, you can have issues with any carrier.

I pay $81/months for one line. I trialed MVNOs, but they don't offer 5G speeds outside of metropolitan areas. So, I guess I know what I'm paying extra for

MVNOs offer what they underlying carriers offers as far as coverage and 5G. You have lower network priority but that's something you won't notice outside of metro areas.

This author truly hates T-Mobile and has a strong biased view. The other two are no better and in my opinion are worse. MVNO's depend on these three as is and there's very little benefit.

Our government has become the problem by allowing mergers without a care about the consumer.

So pointing out the truth is biased?

I left TMO after 19 years and I didn't need their articles for that

At the moment I wouldn't leave, cause I am on one of those unicorn plans, $99 for 11 lines. However if the price went up substantially, then I don't mind leaving.

Your comment makes no sense. So you took advantage of great pricing for years, which nobody else gets for that amount of lines and the moment it goes up, you will leave to another company who will charge you way more for shty service all bc you couldn't still get your way

I left a couple of months ago. Not over t-life, but over the pricing. 1 line should not be close to or over $100 a month. That's crazy. They just kept redoing their pricing and I had enough. Went to Visible for $35 a month and I'm getting everything I need at less than half of what T-Mobile was charging.

So instead of changing your plan, you left lol
