Discussion - Why pay more for the Pixel 11 if you're getting less?

I've never been closer to switching to iPhone than I am right now.

Google should fire the Pixel's design director; he's got manure for brains. Google could be dominating the market, but instead, they're just embarrassing themselves. That Tensor chip is useless; they should use the Snapdragon, which has the power and is good for AI. What's the fear of adding more battery? Do Google's directors not use their Pixel phones, or do they always have them plugged in? If they listened to their fans, they'd have a phone that other companies would envy. I hope they reconsider for the Pixel 12.

Not i own or would ever own a Pixel, as I am a Samsung fan, but have you ever owned or used a Pixel because I have never heard complaints about the Tensor SOC struggling to run AI, camera or normal browsing/texting nor mobile functions. No the Pixrl is not a stong gaming phone but if i understand correctly, it isnt intended to be. I reiterate that I have no personal experience with a Pixel so you may be right. It just saddens me when I see derogatory and/or inflammatory post when often they are unsubstantiated as they are made out or experiential ignorance.

I agree, but since it's cheaper than Samsung and Apple, it's not too bad.

Google knows they would have to spend a TON of money in marketing, under the table money to the FCC, politicians, carriers to break down the Samsung/Apple duopoly. It's just not worth it to them. 😉

I've had the pixel 7 and currently use the 9pro XL. Never had a problem with the battery, camera or anything else.

The Pixel is what the Pixel is meant to be - with few caveats, it is the pure Googly experience. Sure, people that peruse tech-based websites are geared towards those of us comparing mAh, GHz, MPs, f/x.x's, IPxx's, x:x's, Nits, and actual pixel counts, etc. on a spreadsheet, but Pixels haven't been about chasing the numbers on a spec sheet.

I used to be someone who liked tinkering in ADB and flashing custom ROMs since the days of the Droid Eris & Droid Turbo to see what I could squeeze out of a device that was never intended, but since I went Pixel I've basically just enjoyed the integrated Google Android experience. (I seem to recall a certain fruit-logo'd company that had focused more on experience than specs, which seemed to really work out well for them.)

But since we like specs here, I'm interested in seeing the changes that moving from the Samsung modem to a MediaTek one will bring as far as connectivity, battery usage, and thermals go. Plus, the Tensor G6 is also 2nm vs the previously used 3nm (apparently the Pixel Fold will be the first foldable using 2nm chips). The 2nm GAA vs 3nm FinFET comparison will be interesting to me to read up on. There is also the Titan M-series security chip which allows something like GrapheneOS to be run over Android (apparently again, Pixels are the only phones GrapheneOS is capable of running on, though Motorolas may soon join the club).

At least I'm not paying more for something without basic SMARTphone functionality, a US warranty, carrier compatibility, and functional access to Google services. 😏

For what reason(s)?

The dwindling choices we have in the US.

The lack of features I look for in the remaining choices I do have, especially when it comes to battery and charging.

The fact that I'm the one person in my entire family that is on Android.

The fact that the prices of the Android devices I actually WOULD buy are as high as or more than those of the iPhone.

It's just getting harder to justify these days. I love my OnePlus 13, but OP is no longer an option for me. I am not willing to gamble on Nothing. Moto is less of a gamble, but not as impressive here in this market. Samsung is expensive and not innovating in areas I want to see and the Pixel devices just always sound disappointing, like this article describes.
