I'm a Verizon Field Representative in New York, and even though you are right that the general structure of a sales rep is designed so that the more expensive plans generate the more commissions, Verizon is very transparent with the customer and before placing any order there is a lot of verification and review links sent to the customer that they have to complete and review before authorizing the order, so maybe your son didn't pay attention to this. I'm not excusing the agent that sold that to your son, he didn't do the right thing to begin with, but a lot of us try to be honest and we deal with a lot of rejection and bad publicity because of this. Customer is equally responsible for understanding what they are signing up for before placing any order. Verizon is very transparent in that respect and allow the customer to view all of this from their phone or email while the order is being created.
Please stop playing the victim and take responsibility as well. Yes the agent that sold you was greedy and not transparent but you are not telling the full story, you were very naive for signing up to something you didn't understand.
AT&T does the same thing. They promise customers one plan and then sign them up for the highest plan. They flat out lie to customers. Due to unrealistic metrics and threatening to fire reps this is why they do this. Yes they care about customers but they have to feed their families and themselves, they have to pay bills to keep their house and the electricity on. The managers over them are in the same situation, so they tell reps what to do to try to meet insane ridiculous metrics. Call Center jobs are the worse and believe me most reps hate the situation they are in but if you cant get another job that is your only option. Few ppl get out of Call Center jobs and the ones that do they will tell you the same thing. Those jobs weren't bad 20 years ago but they are the absolute worst now. These companies don't treat them their employees well so you think these agents gonna risk their job for any, nope. It's sad and messed up but how it is. AI has made it worse becuz it takes ppl thru circles and sometimes hangs up on ppl. These company want to get every penny out of you that they can, then make commercials about making it right which they don't. Next time ask for a Manager. They will get you to a Team Lead as required by their metrics, then see if that supposed manager can get you to Office of the President(Escalation group). They may have more power to help you.
Corporate Rep here and he's actually right. There are multiple checks and balances that stores do to be transparent with the customer including printed out quotes and viewtogether. Sometimes people just need to be adults and take responsibility for not paying attention or for going to a dealer. Not have daddy wright a hit peice. Don't get me wrong, Verizon is extremely far from perfect, but so are customers we deal with on a daily and a lot of us try very hard to be honest and ethical.

You are a field rep...I was and actual consultant...it's what happens more often than not.
I saw tons of stuff once we became VERIZON. Whole different ballgame.
This complaints is one of literally thousands I have seen.
Nope. He purchased a new phone, unlocked from Apple.
