It looks like my suspicion was correct. While Apple still bears the ultimate responsibility for quality control, it appears the root cause is indeed defective material used by a supplier. Since they can track the affected batches by serial number, I’m glad to see them taking the right approach by proactively identifying and replacing those units.

It looks like those rooting for the iPhone Duo to fail (FANGIRLS) are disappointed once again, as the reported display issues appear to stem from a supplier's material defect rather than a fundamental design flaw by Apple.

I’d still say Apple bears the majority of the blame. You are the last to arrive at the party, you had years to perfect every detail. Supplier or no, Apple has lost control over their QAQC.

This article is the biggest whitewash I have ever seen. And it's obviously wrong from top to bottom.

There are so many faulty units that Apple can't keep up with their promises in Apple Care+. Obviously its more than "a batch"...

im in construction, and we order raw and premature supplies all the time. The word “batch” can mean the entire supply that was made from a date to a date or from certain manufacturers entirely.

Apple did remove 40% of the inventory before it hit the market - say what you will, but I don’t think this crackgate was due to negligence.

but yes, this will strike on Apple, 98% of people not gonna follow up on who the culprit really was, but look directly at Apple for the quality control.

either way, as an iOS fan, I like seeing Apple get spanked to reality once in a while. Keeps them on their toes.
