I'm holding onto my Pixel 8 Pro. I generally upgrade every 3 to 4 years, so holding off this year isn't something out of the ordinary.

Smartphones have hit a plateau, and this year's models look more like refinements than major upgrades with the global constraint on componentes. For most people, even a 4 year old flagship phone is still more than capable for everyday use. Unless you're a power user chasing the latest tech, there's not much reason to upgrade this year.

No one can blame any Pixel user for wanting to abandon them with Google taking stuff away and still increasing the price. Add in the multiple bugs that Pixels always have, and users should abandon them. I would say that the loss of users would be a wake up call for Google, and that they'd do better, but I highly doubt Google would care, given the very small market share of Pixels.

Some individuals 🤓 would know all about small, hence the butthurt and bitterness. 😏 We're not going to talk about a $700 flagship phone that got abandoned after a few months because it was so bad. That OEM was ran out of the market.

A certain individual 🧟 would know all about small, hence the butthurt and bitterness. 😏 Of course she isn't going to stay on topic, because she can't form a valid argument in defense of Googles ridiculous decision to offer less while charging more.

I have a Pixel 7. I was thinking about upgrading to pro xl. I think the upgrade would be worth it, don’t you think?

The hilight feature is an upgrade? It's literally the reason I just bought a 10 Pro - to get the thermometer instead of the useless hilight.

And unfortunately, with LITTLE competition in the United States market, why should the likes of Apple, Samsung, Google bother trying to innovate upgrades? The pretty much have a stranglehold on the U.S. market. Most still buy under contract at carrier stores. Carrier stores probably have "under the table deals" with Apple, Samsung, Google to pretty much push those three brands and ignore what few other devices they have in their stores.

If Oppo, Huawei (with 100% access to google), Honor etc were allowed into the U.S. market, perhaps "the big three" would make some headway in design & innovation.

100% agree, man. It seems like it was just last year when everyone was in a race to see who was going to produce the first full screen device with a high-res UDC, but everyone (mainly stateside) quickly shifted focus on AI. The sense of urgency to truly innovate has become much less of a priority to the US' big 3.

How can "some users" abandon a phone that they don't have? English is only my first language so maybe someone here can help me to understand this, Pixel fans are abandoning something that is sitting in Google warehouses at the time of this articles publication? How? Do Tesla fans seem ready to abandon CyberCab rides? Do Americans seem ready to abandon canned soup? Does Neried seem ready to abandon Triton? How about Neptune, does she seem ready? 🤔

"The only noticeable changes you are getting this year are:

  • The new Tensor chipset (which is still 3nm, no improvement from last year).
  • Slightly faster wireless charging (But still miserably behind).
  • And a 15 mAh bigger battery (No noticeable difference to the user. Also, the Pro, Pro XL, and Fold all went down in capacity.)"

Gee, I wonder why nobody wants a lesser phone for more money?
