Enlightening, yes. Accurate, no. Since the S8+ got taller & skinnier, but the Note 8 just got taller. Afterwards, their successors actually got wider. Now the Folds 1-6 were definitely tall & skinny phones, but not "all Samsung slab phones" as you put it.

Published specs for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 state that the screen aspect ratio is 16:9. Published specs for the Galaxy Note 8 state that the screen aspect ratio is 18.5:9. So, the Note 8 did indeed get taller AND skinnier versus the Note 7. Yes, successors to Note 8 did get wider, but they also got taller (thus continuing to be "tall and skinny" phones with screen aspect ratios taller and narrower than 16:9). I'm not going to look up the screen aspect ratio of every current Samsung slab phone, but if you would care to, you will see that they ALL have screen aspect ratios taller and skinnier than 16:9.

You do realize that the :9 is the width of the display, don't you? If they both measure at :9 then the display width is the same. Also, the width of the actual phones has the Note 7 at 2.91" & the Note 8 at 2.94", so the device itself is physically wider.
Just accept defeat, please. Like I said, Samsung phones aren't "tALl aNd sKiNnY".

...and you do realize that the FULL SPECS AND DIMENSIONS (not just the width measurements) CLEARLY show that the Note 8 is taller and skinnier than the Note 7- both in screen and body!
NOTE 7: 6.04 inches tall X 2.91 inches wide X 0.31 inches thick, 5.7 inch display, 16:9 screen aspect ratio, 78% screen to body ratio.
NOTE 8: 6.40 inches tall X 2.94 inches wide X 0.34 inches thick, 6.3 inch display, 83.2% screen to body ratio.

How often do you see the back of your phone?
Personally, I see the back of my phone daily. My phone is in an Otterbox case the features a clear back panel.
