The only thing that could make me love the Galaxy S27 Ultra is if it has a 16:9 or 16:10 screen aspect ratio. I'M TIRED OF TALL SKINNY PHONES! Hey Samsung, how about an non-folding S27 "Wide Edition", like you did with the Galaxy Fold 8? As it stands, I'll check out the S27 Ultra, but I'll probably skip it and hold onto my S24 Ultra until the Galaxy Fold 9 comes out. Hopefully, the Galaxy Fold 9 will have cameras worthy of a $2,000+ phone.

I agree with this one! They should bring back the 16:9

The new renders of the Samsung S27 Ultra are, first of all, not authentic. Besides that, the camera island looks unnecessarily large and "poor" (a large portion of the island's surface is unused). The previous renders, where the camera island was positioned horizontally (with the lenses and sensors in a line), looked better even if that wasn't an original solution either. For me, the solution lies in emphasizing the "massiveness" of the camera lenses (the best example is the Asus Zenfone 10), with the island's surface either matching the color of the camera frame (like on the Google Pixel 10 Pro) or made of some transparent material (like the iPhone 16 Pro Max). Whatever, do something — the current renders really show an inauthentic, uninnovative, and unattractive design.

You're right; it seems the direction they are taking is to simply copy Apple's design in hopes that they will sell their premium devices just as well.

In 2026, all Samsung "slab phones" (non-folding phones) have a tall and skinny screen aspect ratio! Actually, with the exception of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, even Samsung's folding phones have tall/skinny screen aspect ratios (depending on how they are being used). For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is a tall and skinny phone when using only the outer display. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is a tall and skinny phone when unfolded and the inner display is used.

What does it mean when a phone is said to be "tall and skinny"? A tall and skinny phone has a display that is significantly longer vertically than it is wide horizontally, typically having an aspect ratio like 18:9, 19.5:9, or 20:9 instead of an older, squarish ratio like 16:9 or even 16:10.

Sometime around 2017, smartphone manufacturers began to shift away from more square-ish 16:9 displays to today's taller, narrower displays.

SOME ADVANTAGES OF A TALL AND SKINNY PHONE/PHONE DISPLAY:

Less Scrolling- You'll see more lines of text, articles, and social media posts before needing to move down.

Easier Grip- A slimmer display means a slimmer phone, a phone that lets your fingers wrap around the edges without straining.

SOME DISADVANTAGES OF A TALL AND SKINNY PHONE/PHONE DISPLAY:

Poor Reachability- Your thumb cannot easily reach the top corners with one hand.

Video Letterboxing- Bigger black bars on the sides of most videos.

Photos Look Smaller- Most photos don't fill the screen without seriously cropping the image.

Cramped Keyboards- A narrow width display makes the on-screen keyboard smaller, which can cause more typing mistakes.

Enlightening, yes. Accurate, no. Since the S8+ got taller & skinnier, but the Note 8 just got taller. Afterwards, their successors actually got wider. Now the Folds 1-6 were definitely tall & skinny phones, but not "all Samsung slab phones" as you put it.

No complaints please. All slab phones are 90% alike. That's because we, the consumers, (and ergonomics...all wheels are round) demand it. It's the complete package that defines the phone anyway. At first glance, everyone is going to say Samsung is copying Apple. But the horizontal camera bar is necessary for the Qi magnet components. So it is. Samsung's camera version is very minimalistic compared to the curvy, busy (and heavy) Apple phone. So give "bland" some respect! It will probably change a bit and/or we will. It'll work and command It's own space. Believe me.
