Discussion - Despite losing out on Google services, Americans want Huawei to make a return stateside

If my memory serves me correct, Huawei and AT&T had an imminent agreement to sell HUAWEI phones in store. Then the Trump administration shut it down overnight using a bogus excuse that HUAWEI posed a threat to American national security, with zero proof offered to Americans. Now we essentially have a phone monopoly in America. So much for feee market competition.

I'm not surprised that they want Huawei, 1. it dominated the world, 2. it offered something that others did for years, 3. now when we look at where Huawei has moved without the US and where Apple has moved, it's clear that they want a manufacturer that innovates, not a manufacturer that slacks off and robs people.

The investigation into Huawei goes back to the Obama admin, and had bi-partisan support. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you never bothered to look into the accusations against the company back then.

Regardless, I think it's time to let them sell in the US again after all the changes they've undergone. I'd love to try a Google-free phone.

Best phone I have ever use was the Huawei P30 Pro. Cameras and battery was top notch.

Had the Mate2 with that massive 6.1" screen back in the day. Was ROCK SOLID. Then got the mate 8, then the mate 9 but had to give it up when the ban went into effect...no more play store or android updates.

By far they were the BEST phones I ever owned.

Would I get a new one if allowed in the USA? ONLY if they allowed 100% access to the play store and banking apps would work.

But but but what about spying?

Shoot, you don't think the android apps, government, carriers in the U.S. don't gather data from your phone?

Faceb, Whatsapp, Tiktok, etc are all guilty of spying. Heck the garbage Best Buy app doesn't even work because they got so many things running to sp...I mean tra... I mean get your orders and to make shopping in-store seemless.

Despite some of my comments, I actually don't have a problem with Huawei returning but only if it's a proper return with Google services and Android along with a real OEM US warranty.

That's the price for the consumers when US government are saving Apple by pushing the narrative of national security - without providing any proof. The US mobile market is the most flat, uninteresting and boring.

I'm not surprised that people in the U.S. are voting to have Huawei return, even without the use of Googles Services. Huawei makes some incredible devices, and I prefer the Google-Free experience that they provide. And anyone thinking "but China spying" that is steadily using a smartphone from Apple and Google, and American made apps, I have news for you: They are all spying on you, as is the U.S. government. In any event, the U.S. smartphone market can definitely use the added choice, as it is bland ASF.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, BlackBerry was a great alternate choice that offered security and could use Android apps vs Huawei's very limited HarmonyOS that isn't as functional as iOS and Android. Users have proven via multiple polls and sales that Google services are preferred over not having Google services.
