The Surface Duo failed because Microsoft tried to use Android instead of using Windows and thst is where they messed up.

Windows on ARM wasnt ready and Windows x86 won't run on an ARM chip and since Intel doesn't have a low power mobile chip offering, Microsoft was forced to use Android which even though thry are good at software, the Android they made just wasnt ready.

I think if they had just support native APK where yoi could install any app, it probably would have been fine. They should have just used Google version of Androod vs trying to use Vanilla Android and trying to customize it.

However, they could have resurrected the device, now that they have a working Windows on ARM. Of they was to bring it back right now, I think it will do well as long as it would be running Windows.

Watching Microshaft and the "hired" Tech Media fawn over the Surface Duo v1 and v2 attempting to generate traction on a stillborn idea was ... hilarious! Did nobody in a strategy or marketing media ever say "No! People are not going to want to live w a device that has to be opened every single time to look at the time or a notification etc". Was there nobody to say "Hey, we are several generations in on the folding screen revolution. ... Or ... Nobody is going to settle at this point for a two screen device that split in the middle like a windshield in a 1930s automobile with the bar down the middle."

From the first photos of the device, it was obvious that it was DOA! So, from that point, watching the marketing efforts in house and paid outside the house or a lesson in what futility looks like.

The problem with the Surface Duo wasnt the hardware, the issue was the software.

If they had just put Windows on it, it would have been fine. But Windows on ARM wasnt ready then.

The line writes itself - Apple succeeds where other fail. Again and again.

They sure did "succeed" with that crease and no zoom camera. It's ok I'm sure many Apple fans are taking out payday loans to get this instead of the slab iPhone. I bet slab iPhone sales get cannibalized by the duo

Good job avoiding my point. Tell me more about the duo's success in lack of physical sim, lack of zoom camera, crappy under screen camera and not best in class crease.

If Apple sells enough to make money on this, to continue to build next versions in the future - its success. And from apples tracks record - it will will be very much so just like other new form factors that Apple ventured into.

It's not success from a technological standpoint. Weren't you guys buying $100 socks to carry your precious in?

This honestly makes me laugh because Apple somehow finds a way to dupe the iSheep EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 😂

I mean, the comedy writes itself. They literally took the name “Surface Duo”—an actual device that was already made by Microsoft—and somehow turned it into something people are acting like Apple just invented. 💀

Like… imagine being so loyal to Apple that you see a familiar concept with a slightly different logo and immediately go, “OMG! REVOLUTIONARY! 🤯”

Meanwhile, Microsoft is sitting in the corner like:

“Uhhh… guys? We already did this.” 😂

At this point Apple could put two iPhones together with a hinge, call it the iDuo, slap a $1,999 price tag on it, and the Apple crowd would be lining up overnight like it’s the second coming of Steve Jobs.

“Look! Two screens!”

Microsoft: “Yeah… we know.” 😭

The funniest part is watching the marketing machine convince everyone that something that already existed is suddenly groundbreaking because Apple put an “i” in front of it.

Apple doesn’t reinvent the wheel.

They just wait until everyone forgets who made the wheel, put a titanium rim on it, call it Wheel Pro Max Ultra, and charge you $799 for the privilege of discovering it. 😂🍎

Absolutely no one said that Apple invented something new with the foldable. Literally everyone said Apple is catching up to the new type of form factor. If anyone's said that something was revolutionary - they were most likely were talking about a feature that made the whole experience better than the competition - and even if that opinion is something you disagree with doesn’t mean that Apple consumers are “sheep”

you’re literally making up drama that doesn’t exist to make a fanboy rant.

Wrong and misleading title. Apple literally owns the "Duo" name lineage from the Powerbook line going as far back as 1992. This is them recycling a name they coined first after Microsoft flopped making a stupid product.

Apple does not have trademark ownership of "Duo". Which is exactly why other products have "Duo" in their name.

Samsung has several Galaxy phones that had "Duo" in the name because these models used 2 SIM cards.

So no, Apple does not literally own.

Microsoft has a trademark on the usage of "Windows", "Word" and more. No one can use those in the same product category at the least.

I am aware there are PowerBooks with Duo in the name.
