I convinced it had to have fallen with substantial force or accidentally stepped on while sleeping on a couch.

This is clearly Apple’s way of pushing customers toward buying protective cases and AppleCare+. I guarantee this was done on purpose; if it were a widespread defect, we would already see far more reports, and the internet would be flooded with complaints from critics and FANGIRLS alike.

I find it hard to believe he was able to secure a brand-new replacement unit just six hours after his initial purchase; I'd love to know which Apple Store actually had stock ready for an immediate swap on launch day.

Brown box if im correct means refurbished lol yeah right lol tell me what store ill go buy 2 right now.

They all break, they all can have a manufacturers defect. At least Apple didnt bark back and claim it was user error like they always do.

Brown box does not always mean refurbished. They may have given him a demo unit, or ine they already opened. Or maybe they just opened one and gave it in a brown box, bevause he already has what comes in the box anyeays which is nothing but a cable.

And they was able to do it bevause they had some in the store. Maybe someone hadn't picked up their phone yet or isn't do to pick up for a couple days allowing rome for some more to arrive.

Also when oems ship a product in what is called an OEM box, thst jox could be brown or white and it doesn't mean refurbished. Just means it was sold or given not in a retail package.

You can get brand new stuff in a non-retail package.
