It makes sense its a hardware defect, that will show sooner or later ... I would assume all hinges are made to the same specs so lets just wait and see how this pans out, but for sure there are a lot more devices affected than we really know, or then Apple wants us to know. Time will tell ...

When testing "in the lab", from other videos I've seen the phone is in a cradle and a device is attached to the phone applying equal pressure across the device to open it. In "real life" some might open it by applying pressure to the top or bottom part of the device, which would apply more pressure to one part of the hinge. Perhaps that could be causing the issue. Or, most likely a defective design or build. 😉

No interested in this device, but saddened that some are finding their new toy a disappointment.

I hope Apple makes it right for them.

but I also hope that this is a wake up call for Ternus. Quality went downhill under Cook, especially in software: too much stuff cramped into something we prefer to be vanilla.

anyways, I believe Apple knew about this problem, but found out close to release time (that’s why only 60% of devices made past quality control - I bet bulk of it was for this same issue). But they had to deliver them and hope for the best.

let’s all have a silent moment for the early adopters who had to endure these problems so that the second gen gets it right.

I'm excited for the next android foldable to come out and someone throws it off a bridge where the screen cracks and the apple fanboys say "see!! Had a year and even Samsung couldn't figure it out!" to wipe Apple's slate clean.
