Discussion - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra vs Fold 8: Which one should you pick?

The more we find out, it seems like the Wide is just a 7 rotated to landscape, with the top 1cm lopped off when unfolded. 🤔

With the Ultra, you get the Ultra AND the Wide.

I had flod and flip phones,their screens not 💯 reliable yet and the price of them more than a laptop.

Screens aren't "tough" enough. Mohs scale of hardness? Around TWO!

They're more durable than you think, thanks to the screen protectors they all sport. Yes, not as scratch resistant as glass, but glass scratches too. If screens aren't made of sapphire crystal, they're all too delicate as far as I'm concerned.

Kind of like the "visibility" of a foldable's crease: if it's called a crease, it's because there IS a crease. I don't care about a less visible crease; a crease is a crease and they all su*k.

"Capacitive fingerprint scanner" - The Z Fold hasn't used a capacitive sensor since the Z Fold 4. The Fold 5 changed to an ultrasonic sensor, which is what has been used ever since. The capacitive scanner allowed for gestures (e.g., pulling down then notification shade). The ultrasonic scanners don't support gestures.

I wish they'd go back to capacitive sensors, like Moto did in the Razr Fold.

Not on these prices. Samsung is insane this year. I will wait and potentially get the Z8. I'm on v3 and skipped V5 because of camera bump larger than a phone. Now 6 looks and feels same. So hopefully back to Sammy after 3 years of honor.

The Honor Magic V5 and V6 are vastly superior devices in every way over the Fold 8. You'd be far better off with an Oppo Find N6 or Motorola Razr Fold if you're looking to get away from Honor for some reason.

Fold 8 form factor is silly. It's way too wide when closed (4mm wider than an S26 Ultra or iPhone 17 Pro Max), and it's literally the same width as a Fold 7 or Fold 8 Ultra in landscape when open, so you gain absolutely nothing for all of the other compromises you make with the Fold 8.
