Discussion - Move aside, Galaxy Ring! This new smart ring can measure blood glucose from your sweat!

Recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and I hate wearing CGMs. This will be an immediate purchase once it's released. I imagine the tech will be licensed to Samsung/Google/Apple

This technology has the potential to be life-changing for many people. Hopefully it won't take long to reach the market.

That said, I find the title ti be very misleading. It's a prototype, not a commercially available product. The technology will likely need regulatory entities approvals before being used.

And mentioning the Galaxy ring in the title is just completely biased. Not that I'm surprised, the site´s alignment is pretty well known...

Careful, with an accuracy range of ~13%, that means your 150mg/dL Blood Glucose reading could be off by as many as 20 points.

I see 2 problems with this method.

1) You need to be sweating for it to detect any kind of a reading. (I'm generally not a sweaty person and I wash my hands often, so it may struggle getting a reading, especially in the winter.)

2) It uses osmosis to filter the sweat/chemicals. That means there is a residue on the sensor which can effect future readings. The only way to correct this would be to make the testing strip replaceable with a new one, or wipe it off every so often. Otherwise, you may be getting inaccurate results, that were based on what you sweated yesterday.

It does seem hopeful, and nothing else has existed like this so far. But you can see why companies struggle getting a wearable glucose monitor out on the market.
