Simple...they heard iPhone fold was going to be a wide fold 😉

Why Samsung changed?

You didn't know that Oppo had this aspect ratio from 3 or 4 years ago while Huawei has been using the same ratio for 2 years already? You didn't know that Apple is copying it from them while Samsung is expanding their Fold lineup with different aspect ratios?

And you're gonna call Apple innovative once it's released and Samsung the copy cat?

With Samsung sponsoring so many articles for the last month, it is hard to read one of these Samsung articles without having the thought that the sponsorship won't lead to a bias, even if unintentional. The new folds are releasing right after all of these puff pieces sponsored by Samsung, and with the lack of the photos now saying "Sponsored", it's tougher to know what is sincere.

I haven't heard of these products though that's the point. Without a big marketing budget how can you call it copying when they could have both come up with the same idea but one person executed it better to the point where people have heard about it.

Just making sure I understand, you're saying that since more people do not know about the Pura X or or Pura X MAX; it's not copying?

I can assure you that Samsung knew about both of these and so did Apple. I'm not critiquing, just trying to understand if this is your point.

So whem Samsung made the 1st foldable, that means everyone else is a copy regardless of wther its wide or tall or short. Right?

Didn't the FlexPai come out in 2018 beating Samsung to the punch? I think it only sold around 10,000 units but was out in 2018. Samsung did launch the fold in Sept 2019 compared to Huawei in November, so if we only go by mainstream brands, they were first. But with that, 3 products were being introduced around the same time.

With this, Pura X has had this form factor and now both Samsung and iPhone are "inspired" by it. And I get what you're saying to ojames, so not coming at you, but just stating I don't think Samsung was first. But I could be wrong.

every person in the world of mobile phones knows Huawei, and almost everyone know the PURA X, just because you never heard about it, does not mean they dont exist. go check it in the internet and then comeback and tell me its not a copy

I won't lie maybe I read an article about it on this platform but it maybe popular on the mainland and in Asia but not as globally known as a Samsung.

Which brand started first remind me? Let me quickly Google it and see if it's a copy pure and true.

Also I do agree the original Fold 8 shouldn't be called the 8 Ultra.

However the other 2 devixes are Z Flip and Z Fold. And they could have kept this one name the Fold 8.

Totally agree. They made it too confusing, unnecessarily.

Okay so I read more about the Pura and Although I understand where your coming from these are two different devices entirely with Huawei focusing more on photography and breaking away from the Google ecosystem which has its upside and it's downside. According to sources this means for basic thinks like Bank Apps that rely on Google connections will need third party software to run better. I've never quite understood why they need to anyway but all the same it's quite different than the Samsung which has a more palm friendly design and less intrusive cameras though. Maybe inspired but definitely not a direct copy more like improving a design they copied from Palm.

Same camera specifications but maybe better battery life and charger capabilities. The All rounder factor of a Samsung makes it a clear choice for most consumers because you really don't have to go out of your way to get your favorite applications working. Updates probably are going to be more than what is offered by Huawei and even a tougher screen. My Samsung has fallen twice flat and still no visible cracks just dents at the slightly raised edges.

Truly remarkable, Samsung.

I was interested until you said the s-pen wasn't supported.

I haven't been interested since 2019 & at the rate they're going, I'll never be interested in a Samsung foldable.
