I have 3 different friends with iPhones that I write using Google Messages, and for one of them, I need to turn off RCS. The reason being for some reason it keeps bouncing between RCS and regular SMS/MMS. So when that happens, I do not get her messages at all, or I get them like a day later. For my other two friends, no issues whatever. It's odd.

I support cell phones at work, I see this issue occasionally. It's usually a carrier issue. Either the user needs to accept RCS via carrier (common with Verizon) or enable it in their settings.

RCS has been great for me personally. I do wish more companies would switch their platforms for sending codes to RCS. We have great WiFi at work but very little cell reception. This causes issues and frustration waiting for a SMS authentication/verification code to come in.

I just wish Google would release the RCS code so other text messaging apps would work. I'd drop google messages in a heartbeat if Textra could implement RCS, which is why google obviously probably won't unless ordered to.

Google does not own the RCS code, they did not even invent it. They own the code on the messages app and they own the Jibe backend platform that assisted RCS user to communicate with RCS using their their own cloud server systems without communications companies having to build their own server infrastructure. They own the Messages app RCS code to end 2 end encryption.
