I don't if the "representative" is overseas or is MERICUH. What I care about is competence in doing the job. I have been an AT&T customer since the wireless carrier side was Cingular (I feel old now 😅🤣😂). Anyway, most of MY problems started at the outset of the illustrious Pumpkin Spice Palpatine handling of Covid went it decided to scrap EVERYthing that was done before with no fall plan to well fall on. That bumbling orange bag made hiring idiots an only variable option worldwide. Hence customer service getting sent to remote calling where incompetence was apparent because of a lack of in-person training.

While the FCC is commending AT&T's move, it isn't from a good place with whom is at the helm of the FCC. The article states that overseas call centers often have unqualified people in customer service. The same can be said for US call centers which I had previously experienced with T-Mobile.

What ill make AT&T look good is if they hire people that know telecom and can fix customer issues effectively without giving them the run around.

It's usually nicer to have customer service who are native English speakers. I've had numerous customer service calls where half of my time was spent restating, or slowly enunciating to get the message across. And that's not just for phone stuff, it's warranty things, item returns, bill pay, etc.

I think this is a good call for AT&T.

Native English speakers are not always easier to understand. But at least they are better than speakers who do not always understand idiomatic usage. Someone who knows the systems and understands the problems is better regardless of language. Those are the people who are few and far between.
