It's because the demand for RAM driven by AI data centers. Supply can't keep up, and price increased. For a phone manufacturer to keep the same price as last year, they had to scale back on it. That's common sense. Were they to keep 16GB of RAM across all variations, the starting price would not be favorable. Those that want more 'specs' in their phone, will almost always pay for it knowing that it costs more.
I understand that RAM prices are the cause, but the fact remains that getting the Pixel 11 series doesn't seem to be a great idea this year. The upgrades are limited to the newest tensor chip, new modem and slightly updated camera hardware. the downsides are slightly smaller battery and considerably less RAM and about $100 more. You might be better off getting a cheaper Pixel 10 series with more memory that is considerably cheaper.
I imagine it will be the same tune with Apple, and Samsung.

It's going to have to get rave reviews for me to upgrade this year. I mean, smaller battery, 25% less RAM and a $100 price increase is a hard sell.
