It seems hard to justify your position "It might be time for carriers to step back and ask whether unsustainable price increases and borrowing are actually going to pay off." when 10 years ago you would be paying $140+ for 4 lines and data in the single Gb range while today for the same 4 lines you can get 50 Gb per line for $120 and a dollar is only worth 73% of what it would buy in 2016 netting you $87 cost vs $140 in 2016 dollars.
That's a strange reaction. 50 years ago, you paid corrected on inflation 15$/minute for the same overseas calli pay now 1.7c/ minute. Technologies change and develop.at the same time, the 1 acre lot which used to cost corrected on inflation 50 K goes now for 900 K. These comparisons make no sense
